Four commitments. One mission.

Vulnerable children in southern Haiti need a full stomach, a caring teacher and a path that doesn't end at ninth grade.

Four commitments hold every Haiti Education Foundation (HEF) school together, and none of them stand alone.

  • 34 schools across five mountain parishes
  • 7,000+ students enrolled now
  • Hot meals served every school day
  • 20 college and trade scholars

Where learning begins

Education here starts small and builds toward lasting change. Thirty-four campuses stand across five mountain parishes, each one anchored to an Episcopal church and staffed by teachers who are part of the community they serve, equipping more than 7,000 students for what comes next.

  • The foundation: K through 6

All 34 campuses serve the primary grades, the years where a vulnerable child first meets a caring teacher and a stable place to learn.

  • 12 campuses extend to 9th grade

Haitian secondary school begins at seventh grade. Twelve of HEF's campuses carry students through ninth, co-funded equally by HEF and by the parents investing in their own child's future.

  • 4 campuses offer Philo, the 13th year

Four campuses carry students all the way through Philo, Haiti's thirteenth year of school, which qualifies a graduate to test for university entry.

  • Teachers paid, twelve months a year

HEF teachers are paid every month of the year without fail. Sadly, it is not uncommon for teachers and other workers in Haiti to work without regular, ratable pay.

Daily meals

A hungry child cannot learn

Trinity/HOPE partners with HEF to feed our children and teachers each day. We are grateful for those who faithfully give to make this possible.

  • Sourced from Haitian vendors

Food is purchased locally. HEF walks alongside local vendors, so every meal strengthens the community along with the child who eats it.

  • Cooked by mothers in the community

Local mothers are employed as cooks, turning the feeding program into steady work and dignity for families who need both.

The Père Albert Scholarship Fund

Twenty scholars are enrolled right now in nursing, medicine, engineering, agriculture, commercial business, education and skilled trades. They are the next generation of Haitian professionals, equipped to lead their own communities forward.

More than a school

  • Water cisterns at every campus

An ongoing program builds and repairs cisterns campus by campus, so that a school has access to water for sanitary reasons or purification for cooking.

  • Medical care through Haiti Healthcare Partners

Most fully developed at HEF's mother school in Cherident, this partnership brings medical care to communities that would otherwise go without.

Deep Dive: the Père Albert Scholarship Fund

The fund is named for Père Albert, the Haitian priest whose vision started this ministry of education. A gift to this fund enables a qualified young man or woman the opportunity to receive a four-year scholarship at a local university or trade school.

Successful men and women have graduated from our schools and gone on to do great things. Our local doctor is one of our graduates, several principals and teachers graduated from our schools, and the list goes on and on!

Ready to help a school today?

Fifteen of our thirty-four schools are still waiting for a sponsor. A sponsor keeps one school’s doors open for a full year.

Each school anchors its community

God is at work in these communities through their schools: in the daily meals, in the cisterns, and in the scholars who go on to college or a trade. Your gift keeps that work going.
