Humanitarian Frances Maschal Landers was 60-years-old when she first accompanied her husband, Dr. Gardner Landers, to Haiti where he was there to perform cataract surgery on the needlessly blind. During their mission, she met Father Jean-Wilfrid Albert and her life changed forever.
In author Martha Abbey Miller’s new book, “Hope Personified: Frances Maschal Landers,” she chronicles the partnership formed between Landers and Father Albert, and through the miracle of God, the development of Haiti Education Foundation.
It was Father Albert’s passion and determination to help the children of Haiti that inspired Landers to do something about it. Throughout the span of 30 years, Landers with the help of her church, family and friends built over 50 schools to help end illiteracy for tens of thousands of Haitians.
Landers’s story proves that you are never too old to make a difference. She was a woman from Arkansas who met a priest from Haiti and together they shared a vision to change a generation through education and hope.
"I want to expose as many people as possible to the fascinating story of Frances Landers and the continuing work of changing Haiti one child at a time, through education," said Miller.
